Obama To OSU Graduates: Reject Anti-Government Voices
Over the weekend, President Obama received an honorary doctorate of law from the Ohio State University. I know. That makes about as much sense as Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
Of equal value and significance, he also received an OSU baseball cap.
He was invited to give the commencement address before over 10,000 OSU graduates and a total of about 60,000 people. His blindly optimistic message to them was not to worry about finding a job and being successful, because they’re all entering an economy that is “steadily healing.”
Everything will be just fine as long as they’re concerned about not just individual rights, but also community responsibilities. And part of their “community responsibilities” is to reject anti-government ideas:
“Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. They’ll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.”
He would like that, wouldn’t he? Let’s stop criticizing the government and just accept what they’re trying to do. They’re only trying to do whatever brings about the greatest “good” to the greatest number of people. Forget about justice and morality and treating everybody equally under the law. Let’s all submit ourselves to the arbitrary and relativistic standards of our elected and unelected bureaucratic officials in hopes that someday we’ll all be a part of a collectivist utopia where we’ll work tirelessly and slavishly (community responsibilities) for the maintenance of the State, and in exchange, the State will take care of us. Modern-day feudalism.
Obama mocked those who say that tyranny is just around the corner. They’ve always said that it’s “just around the corner,” and it never happens. For this reason, we should reject their paranoid predictions.
But the beauty of this Fabian method of controlling the populace is how gradual it is. People born into a culture of abject slavery don’t realize that they’re slaves. It’s just “the way it is.” Our decline into tyranny has been and will continue to be gradual.
Compare our society today with how it was 50 years ago, and the differences are drastic. And not just technologically. Our culture has suffered extreme moral degradation, and with that comes an increase in tyranny.
It’s reminiscent of the Israelites in Nehemiah’s day who realized why they were suffering the way they were (Neh. 9):
“Behold, we are slaves today, and as to the land which You gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty, behold, we are slaves in it. Its abundant produce is for the kings whom You have set over us because of our sins; they also rule over our bodies and over our cattle as they please, so we are in great distress.”
So, is tyranny just around the corner? I’d say we’re already in it and have been for some time. It’s just that most of us don’t feel it, because it’s what we’ve grown up with. The tyranny will gradually get worse, and our kids and grandkids will grow up in a vastly different society than we did. Things will continue to get worse until Americans do what the Israelites did in Nehemiah’s day and confess with one voice that tyranny and slavery are consequences of long-term national sins and rejection of Christ and His Word.
