Obama Administration Not Deporting As Many Illegals As They Claim

Amidst all of the criticism on the Obama administration’s handling of illegal aliens, they claim to have record numbers of deportations.  In 2011, they reported 397,000 deportations and claim that they are on track to reach 400,000 deportations this year.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) sits on the Committee of Homeland Security and as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary.  As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, he may serve as an ex officio member of all subcommittees.  In a statement released on Friday, Smith claims that the Obama administration’s numbers of deportations are inflated and not reflective of the real numbers which are lower.

When illegals are detained by Border Patrol agents near the border, they are often just moved to a point along with border and sent back home.  There are no criminal charges filed against them nor is there any official action taken to bar them from returning.  This is part of a program called, Alien Transfer Exit Program or ATEP.  Smith claims that ATEP numbers should be used to inflate actual deportations as they are handled differently and many of the ATEP removals end up returning over and over and over again.

And now… the rest of the story. …..
