White House Opposes Minnesota Traditional Marriage Law
President Obama has decided to interfere in states’ issues once again by stating that he opposes the Minnesota constitutional amendment that would define marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
The White House news release states:
“… while the President does not weigh in on every single ballot measure in every state, the record is clear that the President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same-sex couples. That’s what the Minnesota ballot initiative would do — it would single out and discriminate against committed gay and lesbian couples.”
The news release is correct: Obama doesn’t interfere in every state issue. He only interferes in the ones that appeal to his constituencies. Gay support for Obama in 2008 was very strong; he reputedly got 70% of the gay vote.
