TRICARE Increase Proposal Moves Forward

Despite pressure from military retirees and veteran’s service organizations, the DoD is seeking to reduce their costs by increasing TRICARE premiums and fees for retirees and their families. Over the last few months the battle shifted from whether or not to increase the premiums, to how much to increase them by. Veterans groups have asked DoD to make small increases which would be pegged to the annual COLA increases, however DoD is asking for the premiums to be tied to the National Healthcare Expenditure (NHE) Index. The NHE averages about 6.4 percent a year.
