Take Action to Stop Big Government’s Latest Mandate

May 25, 2010

Today, Big Government is set to launch another all-out assault on our economic freedom and liberty with their latest mandate scheme.

The statists are trying to attach Amendment 4174 to the latest appropriations bill (H.R. 4899).

This amendment mandates would force local and state governments to turn their police and firefighters over to union bosses.

Mandated union representation and forcing state and local governments to bargain with them violates our fundamental freedom to make economic decisions that best fit our own needs.

As we all know, once Big Government grants itself power, that power is always expanded and used to dominate our lives.

Today, it is police and firefighters. Tomorrow, Big Government could be coming to your place of employment to “organize” you and mandate you join a union.

It’s up to liberty-minded Americans to defeat this latest mandate scheme.

You see, mandated unionism takes away the power from local governments and individual emergency responders to decide if they want a union and puts it in the hands of the federal leviathan.

Federal mandates only lead to increased costs. State and local governments around the nation are being bankrupted by the crushing burdens of public employee pension obligations and the threat of crippling strikes. And, of course, the government response is always higher, more punitive, taxes.

That’s why I am asking you to contact your senators and demand they vote against Big Government’s mandate forcing police and firefighters to become union members.

Your senators’ phone numbers are:

Send a clear message that they must reject failed policies that only lead to less freedom and economic ruin.
