In nature, including humans, characteristics of any species tend to be clustered around a mean. The height of men is clustered around 70 inches. Women’s height is a little shorter. Certain species of trees will reach a certain height and will be clustered around that height at maturity. Some trees will be shorter and some taller.
Tides are also clustered around the mean low tide and the mean high tide, with higher and lower tides occurring at less interval than the mean tides. In mathematics this is defined by the term “normal distribution” and can be graphically displayed by a curve. The resulting curve is frequently called the “Bell Shaped” curve.
