Down With the Presidency
February 15, 2010
Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
2/15/2010
This speech was delivered near the imperial capital on October 6, 1996.
The modern institution of the presidency is the primary political evil Americans face, and the cause of nearly all our woes. It squanders the national wealth and starts unjust wars against foreign peoples that have never done us any harm. It wrecks our families, tramples on our rights, invades our communities, and spies on our bank accounts. It skews the culture toward decadence and trash. It tells lie after lie. Teachers used to tell school kids that anyone can be president. This is like saying anyone can go to Hell. It’s not an inspiration; it’s a threat.

So let me get this straight …..
The United States has NOT formally declared war on ANY foreign nation since World War II.
Just exactly how does that affect Korea, Viet Nam, Panama, the Balkans, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran???
The United States HAS declared war on Poverty, Drugs, Terror, and the list goes on & on …..
CONSTITUTIONAL or UNCONSTITUTIONAL???
Incorrect on two points: The holder of the office pf president does not spend the money, nor does it start wars, constitutuinally speaking. It IS the Congress, specifically the Hosue which holds the purse and decides what monies are spent. Declaring war is the sole power of the Congress. We are speaking here of “war”, not some policing action, or some other such psuedo military action, none of which the president has, even though there are those who beleive he is the Commander In Chief; the president does not wear that mantel UNTIL the Congress has passed an actual “declaration of war”; and such a declaration can only stand, constitutionally, against another sovereign nation…not some adjunct political group be they Al Quaeda, or the Boy Scouts.
