If there is one person in history that Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama reminds me of, it’s not Harriet Tubman. Mary McLeod Bethune, Marian Wright Edelman or Eleanor Roosevelt (even though her husband reminds me of FDR). Michelle Obama reminds me of France’s iconic but ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette von-Habsburg-Lothringen, the Archduchess of Austria who married to Louis XVI. She and her husband were deposed and imprisoned during Robespierre’s Reign of Terror. Her crime? Treason. In reality, her crime was, literally, not caring about the welfare of the French people. According to Emer de Vattel’s Law of the Nations (from which common law has its roots) monarchs are obligated to care for their subjects.
