Police suspect 4 involved in killing officer were illegal immigrants

Houston Police Homicide Squad investigators and City Hall officials say it appears that illegal immigrants are once again to blame for an officer’s murder.

Undercover officer Henry Canales, 42, was shot and killed during an undercover operation at Hillcroft and Bellaire in southwest Houston on Tuesday night. Police say he was arranging a transaction in which 4 people thought they were buying a truckload of stolen television sets, when one man pulled a gun and shot him.

A second undercover officer tried to arrest the killer, but he broke away after one handcuff was placed. The officer opened fire on the gunman and killed him.

Three accused accomplices were arrested as they sped away from the scene.
