More parents choose to home school citing values and flexibility

For Jennifer Shepherd, the choice to home school was not made without hesitation.

The first time her husband, Marc, mentioned the idea, she said she thought, “I can’t do that.” But as time went on, she noticed the difference in her son after he would leave home, go to Mother’s Day Out and come back.

“At the end of the day, I’d get my little boy back and he’d have a different attitude than he did at the beginning of the day,” Shepherd, 45, of Beaumont said by phone.

In the end, the family’s values were what pushed the initially reluctant Shepherd into a home classroom.
