Civil Rights of Firearm Owners Figure in Holder Vote Delay

January 25, 2009
John M. Snyder

“The civil rights of law-abiding gun owners figure in delaying the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation vote of Eric Holder as Attorney General,” says John M. Snyder, named Washington’s senior rights activist in Shotgun News.

“The election of President Barack Obama is doing more than any other event in recent years to galvanize the gun rights movement in the United States,” Snyder continues.

“There are an estimated 90 million law-abiding gun owners in this country. That’s about 58 million more people than voted for Obama. The election to the presidency of a candidate with a negative public record on firearm rights has stimulated an activism that has yet to reach its zenith. Reports indicate people are buying guns and ammunition in record numbers as a reaction to the recent election. Gun stores relate that guns and ammo are selling like hot cakes. The FBI reports that dealer requests for criminal records checks required for firearm purchases are way up. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tells gun dealers it has run out of forms required for firearm sales. It instructs dealers to make photocopies of forms so they can complete sales.”
