Chicago Public Schools’ cappuccino bill: $67,000

[Ed. note ~ That’s in excess of $22,300 PER machine! My God, for that price (and in Chicago) they should dispense condoms also! “Would you like a little Trojan with your espresso? How about an inclusive, all expense paid trip to Planned Parenthood?” AND this is the stomping grounds of Al Capone, Richard J. Daly, William Ayers, Antoin “Tony” Rezko, and Barack Hussein Obama!!]

Chicago public school bureaucrats skirted competitive bidding rules to buy 30 cappuccino/espresso machines for $67,000, with most of the machines going unused because the schools they were ordered for had not asked for them, according to a report by the CPS Office of Inspector General.

That was just one example of questionable CPS actions detailed in the inspector general’s 2008 annual report. Others included high school staffers changing grades to pump up transcripts of student athletes and workers at a restricted-enrollment grade school falsifying addresses to get relatives admitted.

In the case of the cappuccino machines, central office administrators split the order among 21 vocational schools to avoid competitive bidding required for purchases over $10,000. As a result CPS paid about $12,000 too much, according to Inspector General James Sullivan. “We were able to find the same machines cheaper online,” he said.

Okay, so we haven’t got a “banana republic” – we have a “coffee bean republic”. Whatever it is we have these days, it ain’t the “American Republic”.

I just wish we could find the barrel was scraped to give us what presently exists not only in Washington, but in just about every state house and probably in most counties and towns as well. You’d think that government seems to follow the old motto about what floats (effluvia, of course!).

I believe that God was kind when he took Ronald Reagan. I pray that He has kept that good man ignorant of the state of the nation that he loved and served in his lifetime.

It is we, the American People who have failed our Founders and all those who faithfully served their vision. We ALL “took a little bit” from the government until, like addicts, we were “hooked” on “help” from Washington. Now we are paying the price of our stupidity, sloth and greed.

I am happy that I have no grandchildren so I don’t need to be concerned about their future.
