The FCC is currently seeking public comments on whether or not it is appropriate and feasible to grant local police forces the power to shut down mobile phone networks.

The request for the public’s input comes after BATR officials in San Francisco shut down cell towers in an attempt to stop a first amendment protected protest for “public safety” reasons.

An article published by CFO World broke down the FCC request in an easy to understand fashion:

And now… the rest of the story. …..

I really don’t think that this is a very good idea.. Telecommunications plays a big part in our world.People either be Iranian and American or whatever citizenship they are ,are always hungry for power which is very bad.

    Let’s see now…
    >If the first amendment doesn’t work…
    …Use the second one…
Maybe We The People should shut down the police?
Have everyone call the police station at once, whole state…
Make several thousand 911 calls at the same time from pay phones…
Let the air outta tires, potatoes inna exhaust pipes, and any other means needed to be used.
Super glue on door knobs of cars…
I’m sure there are a lot of silly ways…
Do da police gotta tower for radios? Bet a bird of paradise could cause transmission problems…
    Tell the FCC no…or else.
Need the FCC address in order to help the decision.
Just a radical that been there, done that…

Didn’t Iran shut down cell phone stations which cutoff protestors reporting to the world Iran police and military were beating and killing protestors?

Now U.S. Police want the power to shutdown cell phone communications. What could American protestors and other U.S. Citizens expect after U.S. police…are permitted by the FCC to shutdown their cell phone communications? Can you trust the Police? Every week the press reports corrupt police selling drugs, robbing and shaking down drug dealers, filing false reports, committing perjury to send innocent Americans to prison. A Citizen’s Cell phone can be their only hope of communicating and proving evidence of police brutality. That is why despot governments increasingly shut down cell phone networks when crushing political dissent. There may be rare circumstances that Government can justify suspending cell phone communications, for instance to stymie terrorists phone communications in a given area. Otherwise it may be time for lawful-demonstrations, protest and written articles against the FCC and any arm of government that supports giving (police arbitrary power) to shutdown Americans’ cell phones.
