Agent’s suspected killer turned over to Mexico
A Mexican man suspected in the 2003 killing of an off-duty Border Patrol agent south of Cananea, Sonora, has been turned over to Mexican prosecutors.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents handed Jose Arturo Arreola-Lopez, 26, over to Sonoran prosecutors from the Mexico Attorney General’s Office at noon Wednesday at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry in downtown Nogales, said Vincent Picard, ICE spokesman.
Arreola-Lopez will now face criminal charges in the Mexican criminal-justice system.
Arreola-Lopez is suspected, along with three others, of beating to death off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent Jorge Luis Salomon Martinez in late February 2003 in Bacoachi, Sonora, a small town about 48 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border.
