The UK Daily Mail Online has reported that a senior agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms came forward last month claiming that the ATF has been “allowing guns to slip across the border and fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.
CBS News interviewed ATF senior agent John Dodson, who stated that his instructions were to allow guns to “walk” across the Mexican border. Dodson described his assignment as emanating from the U.S. Justice Department. Although the Justice Department has denied that the operations took place, CBS states that “Dodson believes there are other ATF operations going on that have done the same thing.”
A CBS report dated March 21, 2011 stated that after Dodson’s revelations, another ATF agent had come forward with the same allegations and that “Now there’s evidence other agencies knew about [the] program.”
