Click and Clack may soon go quiet. At least on the radio, anyway.

The U.S. House passed a bill Thursday to block federal funding of National Public Radio . The bill is not expected to pass the Senate and the White House opposes it. All but seven Republicans voted to defund NPR, with Democrats united against the measure.

Texas Republicans argued that the effort was motivated by a desire to curb federal spending, though some also cited ideological complaints, too.

“The only way to control our federal debt is to re-focus our federal spending,” said Rep. Joe Barton , R-Arlington. “This vote wasn’t about ideology; it was about getting our fiscal house in order.”

Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Dallas, said that defunding NPR was a “way to reduce job-destroying spending.”

“NPR is widely recognized as a partisan media outlet that has long served as a platform for decidedly left-leaning programming and commentary,” he said. “This is a highly objectionable trait for an organization that is funded by American taxpayers.”

And now… the rest of the story. …..
