How to Get Rid of NPR. For Good.
I had never heard of Juan Williams before he became a celebrity for having been fired without a hearing by NPR. Mr. Williams made an injudicious remark about feeling nervous when on a plane with Muslims.
Within hours, he had a multimillion dollar contract with Fox News. That was a slow response compared with the speed of conservatives in Congress demanding that the Federal government de-fund NPR.
Let me say, loud and clear, I am all for de-funding NPR. I also in favor of de-funding just about everything else. I am like one of Pavlov’s dogs. I start to salivate whenever I hear the word “de-fund.” But conservatives miss the mark when they call on Congress to de-fund NPR. This is the wrong way to handle the NPR problem. It would only marginally affect NPR, which gets almost no direct funding from the Federal government.
I have a much more comprehensive goal. I want NPR off the air, not merely hampered slightly. I know how to do it . . . without liberals being able to scream “censorship!”
I want to cut off all of the subsidies. Take away these subsidies, and NPR becomes extinct.
And now… the rest of the story. …..
NPR appears to be a liberal broadcaster. It was recently reported George Soros gave NPR $1.8 million.
Re: Shutting Down NPR.
I am a conservative, can’t stand leftists and greatly despise socialists and communists. But recognize history has shown shutting down opposing political and other views can have severe consequences for a nation. When Hitler was coming to power, Nazi thugs to shut down anti-Nazi opinions attacked reporters and newspaper editors in their offices, beat employees and smashed printing presses. Many in Germany applauded and believed the Nazis were protecting the nation from publications perverting their Homeland, supported by communists, Jews and Homosexuals. After the Nazis shut down dissenting newspapers, Germans could only read news that presented Nazi views on political and social issues. Germans lost their right to read and consider opposing opinions on matters affecting their nation. NPR broadcasts information considered extremely liberal by conservatives; but it is problematic shutting down NPR could effectively set a precedent for another group in power to shutdown conservative radio stations and others considered offensive. Rather than trying to shutdown NPR, conservatives should think about bettering NPR by utilizing other broadcasting facilities.
