It is well-known that home-schoolers excel in competitions like the Scripps National Spelling Bee and the National Geographic Bee. Home-schoolers regularly comprise 15 percent of the entrants to these competitions despite being about 3 percent of the school-age population. In the past 10 years, four home-schoolers have won the spelling bee, and in the past 11 years, five home-schoolers have won the geography bee.
