I grew up in a part of the country where just about everyone owned firearms.
West Central Minnesota, near the South Dakota border, had some of the best pheasant, duck and geese hunting in the world. Deer were also plentiful.
We learned at an early age that we had to thin the populations in the fall, or every winter we would find frozen animal carcasses littering the ditches and adjacent fields. There was not enough food to keep all of them alive.
