Protect your gun rights
Gov. Ed Rendell endorsed an assault weapons ban yesterday, shamelessly exploiting the tragedy in Pittsburgh.
An assault weapons ban, that sounds great. Too bad the Democrats’ definition of an “assault weapon” is huge. A gun only need meet a few of a multitude of arbitrary stipulations to be banned. These bans only punish law-abiding citizens. Best of all, a study Congress required for the Clinton ban found that “the banned weapons and magazines were never used in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders,” and that the magazine limit isn’t a factor in multiple-victim or multiple-wound crimes. (Taken from “Impact Evaluation of the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act of 1994.” Read it all at www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/aw_final.pdf.)
Our freedoms are being slashed to ribbons every day. If you have no interest in gun rights I suggest you start, because if you don’t take a stand now, it’s only a matter of time until they come after something you do care about. If our police are finding themselves outgunned, the solution is not to take away the rights of law-abiding citizens. With all the money our government wastes, let’s find some for body armor and assault rifles for our police. I think they deserve it.
Speaking of wasteful spending: I’ll make a deal with you Gov. Rendell: You keep your greasy nose out of my gun cabinet, and state store employees can be as rude as they like. Americans don’t give up rights, and we’ll vote out anyone who tries to take them away. Write to your representatives.
